Königsleiten, located in Wald im Pinzgau, is located in between the Pinzgau hills to the north and the High Tauern mountain range to the south on an altitude of 1.600m. Königsleiten/Wald im Pinzgau, the home of our Alpenwelt Resort, is a small, pleasantly located village whose history is closely linked to that of our hotel.

Tip for your arrival in winter: as with 1st November a winter tire requirement is expressed in Austria, we like to suggest our guests to equip the car for a winter holiday with winter tires and possibly also with snow chains.

Gerlospass-TOLL-FREE to us in beautiful Königsleiten

ARRIVAL VIA TIROL AND THE ZILLERTAL VALLEY 

• If you travel to Königsleiten via Rosenheim - Kiefersfelden - Kufstein and the Zillertal or via Garmisch-Partenkirchen - Innsbruck and the Zillertal, you will always arrive toll-free as you do not have to pass the toll station at the Gerlos Pass.

 

ARRIVAL VIA THE SALZBURGER LAND COMING FROM MITTERSILL

• All year round you can travel TOLL-FREE via the old Gerlosstraße (B165) coming from Mittersill via Wald im Pinzgau to Königsleiten, as you do not pass the toll booth on the Gerlospass on this route. (Attention: If you are coming from Mittersill via Krimml to Königsleiten, you will travel via the new Gerlosstraße and pass the toll station at the top of the pass, where you have to pay the toll).

 

IN WINTER

In winter you pass the toll station free of charge with your valid ski pass.
When you present your winter holiday reservation confirmation, you will already arrive at the toll station free of charge.
When travelling home from your winter holiday, please hand in your ski passport/keycard at the toll booth so that you can still use the free journey when travelling home | You will receive your deposit for the keycard back at the toll booth.

In order to avoid the "traffic jam-prone" Zillertal on your way to us in the beautiful Königsleiten in winter, we recommend that you travel via Kufstein - Kitzbühel and Mittersill.

 

MANDATORY WINTER TYRES FROM 1 NOVEMBER IN AUSTRIA

Since in Austria a winter tire obligation is expressed with the 01. November (valid until 15. April), we recommend to our guests to equip the car for a winter vacation with winter tires and if necessary also with snow chains for the journey.

If the road is covered with a continuous blanket of snow or a layer of snow or ice that is not significantly interrupted,
or an explicit snow chain obligation is signposted, then snow chains must be mounted on at least two drive wheels.

Please note that Austrian motorways generally require a toll motorway vignette.

The founder of the Alpenwelt Resort is tied to the skiing activities in the Zillertal Arena.

Our hotel offers the ideal starting point for both relaxed strolls and for exciting mountain hikes. It's also worth mentioning that Zillertal is considered to be one of the birthplaces of Alpine mountaineering. As Alpismus arose in the mid-19th century, so did the number of visitors to Wald im Pinzgau also grow constantly.

The development of the winter tourism industry began in 1953-54 with the construction of the Gerlosstein ski area, now the Zillertal Arena today. Other lifts soon followed, the development of which Fritz Kröll, the founder of our Alpenwelt Resort today, played a key role as a pioneer.

The natural treasures of the Alps are protected here as well as nowhere else

The Zillertal Alps Natural Park combined with the High Tauern National Park and the Rieserferner-Ahrn Natural Park represents the largest nature reserve in the Alps, measuring 2,500 km² - over 600,000 acres. Our Alpenwelt Resort in the sub-region of Königsleiten in Wald im Pinzgau is located in the midst of this magnificent countryside. While our hotel is located directly in Königsleiten at an altitude of around 1,600 m and the village centre of Königsleiten in Wald im Pinzgau can be reached on foot in five minutes, the Salzachgeier, the prominent mountain and source of the River Salzach, is the highest point in the Wald im Pinzgau municipal region. The forest that put the "Wald" in "Wald im Pinzgau" - "Wald" being German for forest - represents around a third of the municipality's area and encompasses the Venediger Group's northern slopes, which drop steeply into the Salzach Valley here.
